GLAUCOMA
2021-2024, DIGITAL images, SOCIAL PROJECT INSTAGRAM/FACEBOOK
GLAUCOMA is part of the series of social experiments by Michele Galli, a digital alter ego and new media art project existing exclusively online. Conceived as a reflection on truth, authorship, and censorship within social networks, it probes the boundaries and contradictions of contemporary digital culture.
Born in 2021, GLAUCOMA responds to the restrictive content policies of the Zuckerberg platforms, which often censor artistic nudes while privileging verified profiles. In reaction, the artist reverses the logic of censorship: classical and modern artworks are entirely obscured except for the intimate parts, those normally hidden, creating an anti-censorship that exposes the absurdity of algorithmic control.
The title recalls the eye disease that narrows vision, mirroring the restricted gaze imposed by social media. What remains visible is precisely what should be unseen, revealing a society visually impaired by its own systems of control.
