Image May Contain is the new project by SoContemporary. It reflects on the relationship between different codes: between image and word, representation and proposition.

Inspired by the descriptive phrase “Image may contain”, once displayed by Google in case of poor connection, the project explores the role of language in an era dominated by visual culture.

The result is a series of semantic maps based on iconic artworks, in which each word takes the physical place of its corresponding visual element. In doing so, the viewer is invited to reconstruct the image mentally, through the network of relationships between words arranged in space.
